Coaching at the sophomore level is both challenging and rewarding.
Rewarding:
relationships you have with the girls,
things they teach you,
sharing my love of the game,
seeing them succeed, etc.
Challenges:
often not as committed as I am,
every player has their own way of learning,
trying to get 10 sophomore girls to work together.
I often tell people that if you can't laugh at the things that happen...you will cry.
Excuses I've heard:
"Coach, I have a bruise on my knee I need to ice it." = obviously cannot practice
"I have to go to the dentist today" note: this usually is a worthy excuse. sidenote: she used this every week.
AND MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE:
"I hurt my neck brushing my teeth." - yes, for real. I was speechless.
They funny human beings and make me laugh all the time. I truly love my job of teaching them the game of basketball. I only wish I had more time with them...the season goes by fast.
In fact, it starts on tuesday.
Wish us luck :)
